 School Counsellor
   ROLE OF SCHOOL COUNSELLOR

The School Counsellor is a member of Staff trained specifically for this role. She is
availableto pupils who self refer or are referred by the Year Head at therequest of parents/guardians or the pupil.  The counselling sessionsare conducted through an appointments system and are strictlyconfidential except when issues of Child Protection arise.

TheSchool Counsellor attends Case Conferences when required. TheCounsellor also makes referral with the SENCO in order to assist withparticular problems on the Register.

Theschool also uses the services of outside counselling agencies e.g.Decipher when it is appropriate or the Education Welfare Officer ifabsenteeism is the problem.

TheDesignated Teacher for Child Protection and the Deputy DesignatedTeacher makes referrals where necessary to the relevant Health andSocial Services Trust, and in the case of suspected child abuse.

 There is a Bereavement Support Service available. It is provided by Miss E. Deeny and is available Monday – Thursday in C16.
