The department aims to encourage pupils to develop their curiosity and enjoyment of Chemistry and to progress their observational, mathematical, practical, problem-solving and communication skills through research, discussion and written work.  Pupils learn to appreciate how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how the subject contributes to the success of the economy and society.
